Located in Bundibugyo District, Bundi Nyahuka is a 19-acre farm cradled in the valleys of the northern slopes of Mt. Rwenzori (also known as the “mountains of the moon”). Its unique placement on the windward side of the mountains sees it receive rainfall 330 days a year on average with temperatures between 24-30 degrees celsius. The district’s location in a valley and on the windward side means that it has high mineral content soils washed down from the mountain settling into the soils of the district where lush vegetation and natural forests such as the Semuliki National Forest Reserve thrive. All these factors combine to make it one of the most fertile mineral rich soils in Uganda where any and everything grows.
In 2019, we made our first investment with the purchase of a farm with 3,500 mature vanilla vines near Nyahuka town. Our first harvest came in December of the same year as the covid pandemic was sweeping the globe. The uncertainty of the period was deeply concerning but we managed to process and mature our harvest before Uganda went into covid restrictions and eventual lockdown.
